STi7200 - World's first Dual HDTV Decoder Chip

STMicroelectronics has announced its Dual HD Chip, the STi7200. This is the worlds first Dual HDTV Decoder Chip to be manufactured in 65nm Technology which means it can offer lower power consumption and competitive pricing. The STi7200 chip supports HD inputs from HD DVD and Blu-ray formats, as well as high-definition satellite and cable TV standards. The chip is designed to be used in set top boxes, PVRs, and DVD electronics. It will basically allow you to watch HD material on two TV sets, one channel in high definition and the other downscaled on-chip to standard definition. This means you can have a single HD PVR for two TVs.The STi7200 Dual HD chip will be available to consumer electronics manufacturers and priced at $30 in high volume. .

Another PVR-building tutorial

We've given you tips time and time again on how to build your own PVR. You can go out and purchase some new parts, or you can dedicate an old computer to the task. But the voyeur in me just can't get enough of these tutorials, because I love seeing how other folks' home-built PVRs stack up against mine. Shawn Kent has written up a pretty simple tutorial on building a relatively inexpensive HTPC using parts from an old computer, a new case, hard drive, video card, and TV tuner. The problem with tutorials like this is that they're getting outdated by the minute. Yes, it's true that you can build a home theater PC to handle standard definition content for just a few hundred dollars. But as the push towards high definition video and high definition television sets continue, these systems may not really suit your needs much longer.

'Raisin'g awareness through cultural play

She was approached by Sharpe to perform "Raisin Cane" while filming episodes of the Showtime cult-classic "Dead Like Me" in which she co-starred with Ellen Muth and Mandy Patinkin. After getting a feel for "Raisin Cane" and realizing how powerful and passionate the show was, Guy knew she had to be a part of it. She says that theater is different than television in that it's "interactive, and even if the audience isn't saying anything, you know they're there. It's more organic."

"Raisin Cane" is a powerful show about an incredibly passionate and revolutionary time in America's history.

"I think emotionally it effects people on a very basic, human level, but I think it's fun to understand that all these people hung out together and had all this creative energy flowing," Guy said.

HDTV frenzy for Super Bowl

With the Super Bowl just 10 days away, you may be thinking about gearing up for the big game with a high definition television set. Thousand of people across Northeast Ohio are making the switch to HDTV.

The video quality on the high def television sets is amazing. Electronics consumers "ooh" and "ah" when they see the impressive digital technology. But there is one immediate problem. Everybody wants it now.

Teresa Marquardt is the store manager at the Best Buy outlet in North Olmsted, Ohio. She says that sports fans are snapping up the High Def TV sets.

"Well, they want it now," said Marquardt. "Because the Super Bowl is right around the corner. So they need to come in, pick out the one. Half the time they don't even know they want HD until they see and go wow!"

In Brecksville, Ohio, the service crews from Time Warner Cable are making another house call.
