Samsung LN-S4692D 46?

Quick take: The Samsung LN-S92D series consists of three LCD flat-panel TVs: the 32-inch LN-S3292D, the 40-inch LN-S4092D, and the 46-inch LN-S4692D. All three share the same native resolution of 1,366x768, which means they can display every detail of 720p material. Since we have not reviewed these sets, we cannot comment on their image quality.

We have reviewed Samsung LCDs such as the LN-S3252D and were pleased with their image quality, but we don't know if the LN-S92D will provide similar performance. In terms of connectivity, all three are the same, featuring two HDMI inputs, one component-video input, and a VGA-style PC input. All three of these sets also have built-in HDTV tuners, which means they can receive over-the-air HDTV without an external set-top box. The LN-S3292D, the LN-S4092D, and the LN-S3692D are all currently available, with list prices of INR 83,921, INR 106,005, and INR 132,507, respectively.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trident Microsystems, Inc. Flat Panel Display Makers Face Ongoing Weakness

Eric Savitz (Barron's) submits: A “major slowdown" in demand for large-size LCD displays in December triggered a faster-than-expected fall in panel pricing in both December and January, according to the research firm iSuppli.

In a research note today, iSuppli said “price erosion is expected to continue through the first quarter because of the seasonally slow market conditions." The firm said monitor and notebook panel prices may stabilize by the end of the second quarter, but that television panel prices, “will continue to decline through the second quarter due to increased production from newer-generation LCD fabs."

Sweta Dash, director of LCD and projection research at iSuppli, noted that the price declines came despite a drop in panel fab utilization rates at many suppliers to 80%-85% in December and January, down from 95% and higher in November.

Issue 62, January 29th, 2007

USA/EUROPE: Despite soaring sales of larger-screen sets, rapid price declines will cause the Liquid Crystal Display Television (LCD TV) market to undergo a deceleration in 2007 compared to the red-hot year in 2006, although growth will continue at a prodigious rate, iSuppli predicts.

Global LCD TV shipments will rise to 62.5m units in 2007, up 57 per cent from 39.7m in 2006. This is down from 95 per cent growth in 2006. This slowdown reflects the large volume of LCD TV shipments, which makes it difficult to maintain such dramatic growth on an annual basis.

The slowdown in 2007 will be more pronounced in terms of revenue, says iSuppli.

Worldwide LCD TV factory revenue will rise by 20 per cent in 2007, expanding to $53.5bn, up from $44.7bn in 2006. This represents a 56 percentage point decrease in growth compared to 2006, when LCDTV revenue increased by a whopping 76 percent.
