For the first time, users can build a media PC and watch, record and play back any and all of the content seen on a digital TV. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. ASUSTeK introduced a new line of Wireless for HDMI products for the digital home, including accessory devices and embedded designs that dramatically simplify connections between home audio and video electronic components. Derived from MIPS-Based innovations in ultra wideband technology by Tzero, these new products enable distribution of high-definition video streams around the home-significantly reducing installation and equipment costs for service providers.
Survivor: Fiji Not in HD
Survivor is probably the highest profile network show to still not air in High-Definition. It has been confirmed by HDTV Magazine that CBS will continue airing the long-running reality series (now in its 14th season) in the standard TV format and not in the widescreen aspect ratio. This is disappointing news for those wealthier Survivor fanatics who own a behemoth HDTV, and also kind of bad news for everyone else. I prefer everything (TV, film, sports) in widescreen and, although I can understand the reasons, can only imagine how beautiful Survivor's tropical locales would look in Hi-Def. However, before we cause an uproar and wonder how it is possible that, in an age where almost every show on TV is in HD, one of CBS's most successful franchises isn't, we should examine the practical issues at hand.

Super Bowl to be broadcast in low-def only in the Hills
RAPID CITY -- For Black Hills viewers of high-definition television, the Feb. 4 Super Bowl LXI will be a low-definition event.Young Broadcasting, the company that operates CBS-affiliate KELO-TV, does not offer high-definition on its West River stations, confirmed Gwen Kinsey, the company's president and general manager.KELO, the company's namesake transmitter that serves Sioux Falls, has been converted to offer HDTV in addition to its regular TV signal, she said. However, the transmitters that serve the rest of the state, KPLO, KDLO and KCLO, have not yet been converted."We've already invested $4 million, and we're not done yet," she said.That means that West River viewers who have high-definition televisions won't be able to watch the Super Bowl in high-definition, not even on cable TV or satellite.The only exception -- and it's a rare one -- is if you are a rural customer of DirecTV satellite service, and you have an exemption from KELO to get CBS programming from another market, according to Bill Teevens of Wirefree USWA, a dealer for DirecTV.Under Federal Communications Commissions regulations, people who live beyond the reach of the local station's over-the-air broadcast range can get an exemption that allows them to receive network programming from Seattle or some other CBS-affiliated station.
